Meet the Founder

Every career leaves us with something worth carrying forward.

Human Edge Consulting wasn't created because I wanted a different career. It was created because I believed there was another way to make a meaningful difference.

After almost two decades working within complex safeguarding and investigative environments, I had seen extraordinary professionals doing their very best inside increasingly complex systems. I had also come to understand something that would eventually shape Human Edge Consulting itself.

Safeguarding doesn't begin when something goes wrong.

It begins much earlier, in the quality of our systems, our leadership, our communication and our willingness to keep learning.

Over time, I found myself returning to a question: what becomes possible when we bring the right combination of experience, knowledge and human understanding to a difficult problem?

It was a question I asked myself and those close to me, time and again when I felt more could be done.

Choosing to build Human Edge Consulting wasn't about walking away from policing. It was about carrying forward everything those years had taught me and creating another way to contribute through independent advice, practical support and human-centred partnership.

That journey, however, started long before my career ever did.

To understand Human Edge, it helps to understand where my own journey began.

Auslan is the language of my family and community. I was raised by Deaf parents in a household where sign language, lip reading and visual communication came before spoken English.

Growing up, I was often told I had one foot in the Deaf world and one foot in the hearing world. Only later did I realise how profoundly those early experiences had shaped the way I understand people, communication and systems.

This taught me that genuine understanding begins by recognising we each experience the world differently, and that meaningful conversations start with curiosity before certainty.

Working throughout rural and remote communities, including alongside First Nations people in their own cultural and community settings, deepened my appreciation for culture, connection and the importance of listening before leading. Those experiences taught me that effective practice cannot simply be carried into a community; it must be shaped through relationships, trust, cultural humility and genuine partnership.

My personal life has been just as influential as my professional journey. Raising children within a blended family reinforced the importance of collaboration, grace and creating a sense of belonging, even when life asks us to navigate complexity.

There is a human behind every system.

That belief sits at the heart of Human Edge Consulting.

Every policy, investigation, review and decision ultimately exists to serve people. When we lose sight of that, systems become processes instead of places where trust, safety and belonging can grow.

Remaining human first is an important reminder.

The most valuable system you will ever lead is your own. How we lead ourselves inevitably shapes how we lead others, make decisions and contribute to the systems around us.

I still laugh at myself. I still become emotional when something truly matters. I still believe integrity remains one of the most influential tools we have for creating meaningful and lasting change.

And I care. My compassion for people navigating systems — particularly when they are vulnerable, uncertain or simply need to be heard, has never diminished with time.

Building Human Edge Consulting has been one of the most rewarding and deeply personal journeys of my life. It represents the coming together of lived experience, professional practice and a belief that safer systems are built through partnership, courage and continuous learning.

If the values defining Human Edge Consulting resonate with yours, I would be honoured to work alongside you.

Welcome to Human Edge Consulting. I am genuinely glad you are here.

With warm regards,

Jasmine Luke
